UKCC Level 1
The Level 1 Coach Training and Assessment Award is the first stage of the BCU Coaching Scheme. Ideal to get you started coaching and leading groups on very sheltered water working under supervision.
The level 1 is a 4 day course
There are no pre requirements on the course. The course can run in a modular form or in a single block.
For courses run in a single block then you will require
Level 3 Kayak Assessment
The purpose of this award is to provide a minimum qualification for people who are in charge of kayaking activities at a Centre, School or Club.
This assessment qualifies you to lead groups on journeys and or on white water (grade II), or equivolent sea conditions.
UKCC Level 2 Training
The Level 2 will train you to coach both canoe and Kayak, and will allow you to coach 2 and 3 star skills on sheltered water.
This is a 4 day course. The Level 2 assessment is a single day and is separate from the training.
You require your UKCC Level 1 and a three star, you should also be at 3 star standard in the other discipline
Coaching Processes
This is a fascinating course designed to increase the depth, flexibility and effectiveness of your coaching.
Currently a non assessed component essential to becoming a Level 4 coach.
Assessors Days and Assessors and Trainers grades
At Canoe Coaching we welcome and encourage assessors and aspirant trainers, as you move through their grades to observe and assist on courses.
Understand that you may not be the only person wanting to be involved with a course. Please email prior to a course and I will be able to let you know availability.
The simplest, fastest and most full proof way through the assessors scheme is to organise the course yourself. I would be delighted to deliver on a course you have organised and help you on your journey through the Trainer and Assessor scheme. Please email me and we can look at dates.
2/3 Star Training and Assessment (Canoe and Kayak)
The 2 and 3 Star Awards are designed to equip you with a range of techniques and paddle stokes which allow you to confidently manouver your boat in gentle breezes on sheltered water.
Successful performance at 3 Star Level indicates that you are competent to cope with most British open water in moderate conditions, in winds force 2-3.
Safety Test
This award has two purposes, firstly, to provide you with the necessary safety awareness which will enable you to ensure the safety of yourself and others. Secondly, to provide you with rescue skills which can be used to help yourself and others in difficulty.
This course has some shared modules for Canoe and for Kayak , but there is a boat specific rescue section in both training and assessment for Canoes and for Kayaks.
4 Star Training and Asssessment (Canoe and Kayak)
The 4 Star Award is designed to indicate that you have sufficient proficiency to undertake a journey as a member of a group being led on grade 2 water.
White Water Safety
The aim of this course is to encourage safe white water paddling by teaching simple and effective techniques of leadership and river running skills.
This 2 day course is very practical and will include defensive swimming, throwbaging and boat rescues. Despite time spent practicing these skills, the whole course aims to consolidate good descision making and good leadership.
Avoidance of hazards is the best tactic for white water safety.
5 Star Canoe Training
5 Star Canoe Assessment
Attainment of this award indicates that the candidate has entered the top level of performance, involving leadership in advanced situations and high personal skills. It is the appropriate test for paddlers who wish to lead other groups of paddlers on Advanced river journeys and on remote, exposed open waters.
Workshops for Poling, Tracking, Rescues, Leadership or Coaching
Make those final preparations for your assessment. If you would like an extra hand with any part of the syllabus then contact Tom.
Be confident on the day because you are ready.
UKCC Level 2 Assessment
The purpose of this award is to provide a qualification for those wishing to introduce others to canoeing on simple waters (or equivilent very sheltered coastal areas).
Completion of this award is an indication of a level of competence for introducing groups (normally up to 8 people) to the standard of the BCU 2 Star test.
Level 3 Canoe Assessment
The purpose of this award is to provide a minimum qualification for people who are in charge of canoeing activities at a Centre, School or Club.
This assessment qualifies you to lead groups on journeys and on white water (grade II), or equivilent sea conditions.
